Wilderness First Aid (WFA) 2024

Wilderness First Aid is a mandatory requirement for any adult leader taking their Unit on a BSA High Adventure trip. Northern Tier, Philmont, Sea Base, and Summit Adventure Base all require at least one leader of the group to hold a WFA certification (Philmont requires both leaders to have it).

All registered adults and youth are eligible to take this course following these guidelines:

  • Adults*: Provide CPR/AED certification
  • Scouts BSA requirements*: 14 years old minimum, youth must be First-Class rank, and must have completed First Aid Merit Badge.
  • Venturing requirements*: must have First Aid training.

*These requirements may be waived if you take Friday’s CPR/AED course. See info below.

CPR/AED Certification Information: Participants should have First Aid and CPR training and certification completed from any approved agency and should brush up on First Aid and CPR concepts prior coming to the course. For those who do not, a Friday evening intensive course will be offered for an additional $20 on top of course fee. This course starts promptly at 6:30pm and runs for 4 hours.

The course will issue certification cards on CPR and Wilderness First Aid. Certification will be through Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI). ECSI is a BSA approved instructional course.
