Wilderness First Aid (WFA) 2023

Troop, Venturing, and Arrow of Light leaders are all recommended to take this course especially if you plan to conduct outdoor activities such as remote camping, canoeing, long hiking excursions, etc.

Wilderness First Aid is a mandatory requirement for any adult leader taking their Unit on a BSA High Adventure trip to Northern Tier, Philmont, Sea Base, and Summit Adventure Base, all require at least one leader of the trip crew to hold a WFA certification (Philmont requires both leaders to have it).

Youth may take this course. Scouts BSA requirements: 14 years old minimum, at least First-Class Rank.

Date:              Friday June 9th 6:30 PM to Sunday June 11th 3:30 PM

Check in time 5:00 – 6:30 PM on Friday; Gear time to set up before 6:30 PM gathering.

Location:       Camp Sam Wood, 7772 Camp Road, Portageville, NY 14536

 

Gear:              Appropriate clothing for weather, sleeping bag, good hiking boots, Field Uniform, etc.

Lean-tos are limited on first come, first basis. Other participants should bring their own tents.

 

Fees/Meals:   $90      Wilderness First Aid without CPR/AED certification

                        $110    Wilderness First Aid with CPR/AED certifications

 

Prerequisite: CPR/AED certification if not taking the Friday night Course

 

 

Deadline:        Registration closes Friday June 3rd.

 

Space is limited. The maximum course size is 25 participants.

Participants must have a current CPR/AED certification completed from any approved agency or take the CPR/AED course offered Friday night. Those participants with prior completions should brush up on First Aid and CPR concepts prior coming to the course. Those who do not, Friday evening CPR/AED course will be offered for additional $20.

This course starts promptly at 6:30pm and runs for 4 hours. Do not be late.  

The course will issue certification cards on CPR/AED and Wilderness First Aid. Certification will be through Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI). ECSI is a BSA approved instructional course. Cancellation Policy
Individuals/Groups that cancel their event registration 14 days or more prior to the event date will receive a refund of the total registration fee less a 15% administrative service charge. No refunds will be given for cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the event date.
