What to expect:

This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding outdoor or camping components to their Pack activities. BSA’s Cub Scout-level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience. A team of instructors will teach you about a number of subjects, from camping equipment and fun group games to fuel safety and age-appropriate guidelines.

BALOO training also includes an online pre-requisite componentParticipants will be asked to completed this at my.scouting.org before the course. After logging in, select the Learn Center and navigate to the BALOO Prerequisite Training modules in the "Expanded Learning" section of the course catalog. These are 4 different modules that take about 35 minutes to complete. You will be asked to provide proof of the online course completions at checkin or before.

Put the "outing" in Scouting! If your Pack does not currently hold Pack-coordinated overnighters, BALOO is for you most of all! Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack-coordinated overnighter.

The Western New York Scout Council also requires that adults attending any training courses be currently registered with the Boy Scouts of America.

A pre-course email will be sent to you about a week before the course with more details.

Your training involves camping in a tent overnight. Please plan to pack the following for the weekend.

  • Tent & ground cloth
  • Sleeping pad & bag
  • Sturdy shoes
