Birchbark Expeditions High Adventure
Adult Leadership Training Weekend

August 10-13th, 2018
in Algonquin Provincial Park, Canada -

Open to registered adult BSA leaders looking for ADVENTURE!  An opportunity for leaders to experience Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park, learn the finer points of backcountry camping, canoe tripping and how to build a High Adventure program within their units.  Held from Friday through Monday, August 10-13th, the program and activities are designed to be fun, include adventure, with adults in-mind.   

Cost: $100/person
Payment Schedule:
$50 by June 1st (or at time or registration)
Payment in full by July 1st

Itinerary:

  • Friday, Aug 10th at 1PM - Arrive Algonquin Whitefish Campground for a personal gear shakedown, set-up camp, on-water rescue exercises/swimming and a campfire program on organizing a High Adventure program. (paddle 1 km)
  • Saturday - Put-in at Rock Lake, paddle to Pen Lake, visit/swim in the Pen Lake Falls, set-up backcountry camp.  Program on safe swim/safety afloat, backcountry camping, bear bags, food preparation and proper hygiene. (paddle 11 km)
  • Sunday - Visit the Galipo and Clydegale Falls, portaging practice, search for moose in Madawaska River before returning to backcountry camp (paddle 9 km)
  • Monday - Break backcountry camp, return to Rock Lake for showers, feedback session and departure for home. (paddle 11 km)

Includes:

  • Three nights camping (one at Whitefish and two nights on Pen Lake)
  • All camping fees for basecamp and backcountry camping
  • Use of canoes, PFDs, paddles, safety equipment
  • Crew gear, including tents, rain tarp, kitchen gear, water purification systems
  • Dinner Friday evening 
  • All backcountry dehydrated food and snacks
  • Trail lunch for Monday drive home
  • Opening campfire and backcountry camping program
  • Highly trained backcountry guides for the duration
  • Souvenir Tee Shirt and Nagine Water Bottle

Requires:

  • Participants provide personal camping gear
  • Must be able to pass a BSA swim test and be in good health  
  • As this is backcountry wilderness camping, good camping skills are highly recommended.  
  • Adults must be BSA registered
