Red Jacket District Spring Camporee Events List
- Flint and Steel Firemaking: Troops will attempt to build and start their own fires via use of flint and steel. Points will be awarded for speed of burning through a string, authenticity of fire starter (true flint and steel?), technique, and teamwork. (Scoutcraft Area) TROOPS NEED TO BRING FLINT AND STEEL
- 2 Man Crosscut Saw: Troops will compete in this traditional contest for speed and accuracy. Points will be awarded for such, with extra points awarded for Scout Spirit – (maybe a good lumberjack song?) Saws provided. (Shooting Sports Area) TROOPS SHOULD BRING EYE PROTECTION AND GLOVES, IF THEY WANT TO USE GLOVES
- Orienteering Course: Will your Troop be able to find their way through our tricky course? Are your skills honed? The party depends heavily on your navigation. Points awarded for accuracy and teamwork. (White Trail) TROOPS NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN COMPASS
- COPE Teamwork Challenge: Director John Foley and his staff will challenge troops to a low course event graded on teamwork, efficiency, and Scout Spirit. (COPE Course)
- Axe Throwing Competition: A challenge of accuracy. (Shooting Sports Area)
- Pioneering/Knots Challenge: Troops will compete for accuracy, speed, and the finished product. Teamwork and know-how are key. (Ecology Area)
- “Le Grande Portage” Race: a great race around Lake Cornelius. Canoes, packs, paddles, pdfs… (Boat Lake Dam)
- A surprise challenge: to be announced “Be Prepared” – no equipment will be needed by Troops
