WHO: POWDER HORN is open to adults and venturing age youth (14 and older) registered with the BSA. The cost to enroll in POWDER HORN 2016 is $50. You don’t have to enroll in POWDER HORN for this activity, but future POWDER HORN activities may be limited to those enrolled. You can’t earn your POWDER HORN without being enrolled.

Expedition Planning and Mountaineering
- Considerations and proper planning techniques to plan a unit expedition
- Principles of trip and activity planning
- Risk management plan for activity
- Equipment and training necessary for an expedition
- Overview of mountaineering basics
- 10 essentials as they apply to expedition planning
Search and Rescue
- SAR principles necessary to assist the lost and confused in the field.
- Bringing lost individuals back to safety
- Preparing a 24 hour pack if you’re involved in search and rescue
- Practical exercise outdoors on identifying clues in searching for someone
Emergency Preparedness
- Have an understanding about preparation for emergency situations
- Understand what individual needs are for emergency situations
- Emergency Preparedness for everyday situations
- Emergency Preparedness for scout/camping situations
