High Adventure
Adult Leadership Training Weekend

July 19th-22nd, 2023
in Adirondack Park, Saint Regis Canoe Area

Open to registered adult BSA leaders looking for ADVENTURE!  An opportunity for leaders to experience the Saint Regis Canoe Area of Adirondack Park, earn your BSA Paddle Craft Safety Certification while learning the finer points of canoe tripping and backcountry camping.  Held from Wednesday through Saturday in July, the program and activities are designed to be fun, include adventure, with adults in-mind.   

Cost: $150/person
Payment in full by July 1st

Itinerary:

  • Wednesday at 1PM - Arrive Birchbark Expeditions Basecamp in Camp Mountaineer for a personal gear shakedown, set-up camp, a guide-prepared meal, with a campfire program on organizing a High Adventure program before bed. 
  • Thursday - Put-in at Hoel Pond, paddle through Turtle Pond, Slang Pond, into Long Pond, set-up backcountry camp.  Requires one small 351m portage.  Program on backcountry camping, bear bags, food preparation and proper hygiene. 
  • Friday - ACA on-water training, safe swim/safety afloat, portaging best-practices, returning to backcountry camp .
  • Saturday - Break backcountry camp, return to Basecamp for showers, graduation, feedback session and departure. 

Includes:

  • ACA Flat-water Instruction
  • Paddle Craft Safety Certification
  • Three nights camping (one at Camp Mountaineer and two nights on Long Pond)
  • All camping fees 
  • Use of canoes, PFDs, paddles, safety equipment
  • Crew gear, including tents, rain tarp, kitchen gear, water purification systems
  • Dinner at the basecamp Saturday evening 
  • All backcountry dehydrated food and snacks
  • Trail lunch for drive home
  • Opening campfire and backcountry camping program
  • Highly trained backcountry guides for the duration
  • Souvenir Tee Shirt and Nagine Water Bottle
  • Personalized "Voyageur" Certification

Requires:

  • Participants provide personal camping gear
  • Must be able to pass a BSA swim test and be in good health  
  • As this is backcountry wilderness camping, good camping skills are highly recommended.  
  • Adults must be BSA registered

Registrations are transferable with approval to a qualified alternate participant. Cancellations after May 1st receive a 50% refund No cancellations/refunds after July 1st
