Southtowns Family Justice Center Gets New Home The Family Justice Center of Erie County marked the grand opening of its first satellite office on Feb. 12, 2011 in Orchard Park. The opening coincided with the second anniversary of the death of Aasiya Hassan who was murdered by her husband in the Bridges TV studios in Orchard Park.
Inspired by the tragedy, a group of concerned citizens organized the renovation of a home owned by the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church as a satellite office for the Family Justice Center of Erie County. The new facility will provide victims access to proper counseling and law enforcement in a safe and comfortable setting, avoiding travel to downtown Buffalo. As part of this important new community resource, Eagle Scout candidate Jacob Eneix of Troop 483 coordinated 40+ volunteers as they completed the interior painting of the two story 8-room structure. As opening day had been set and a number of other contractors needed access to the home, scheduling for the project was extremely tight - forcing most of the work to be done in the six days between Christmas and New Year's Day. Scouts and Mark McCormack (right) get instruction from Jacob Eneix (left) as the painting continues. Thanks to the tireless contributions of the many volunteers and the extensive supplies provided by local hardware stores, the interior painting was completed on time with wonderful results.
