Burchfield Center Gets New Sign and Benches New signage and reflection area enhance visitor experience for community When arriving at the popular Burchfield Nature Center in West Seneca, you may notice a new informational bulletin board and when walking along the trails, note a newly created "reflection area" with two permanent benches. One of many projects the center has on their to-do list, the new sign and benches were designed and installed by a crew of voluteers lead by Life Scout Matt Reilly of Orchard Park. "The message board was put in place in front of the playground so notices could be posted regarding events at Burchfield", said Matt as his crew was putting on the finishing touches. Matt (right) and his father Michael are shown along with the new sign at the playground area of the Burchfield Nature & Art Center. The project included some special challenges as the dry hot summer made the ground particularly hard and difficult to dig the many post holes needed for the benches and sign. The tough ground and a flat tire on a wheelbarrow were some of the unexpected challenges that Matt had to deal with to complete his project. Matt's Eagle project caps a very active summer, having just returned from Philmont Scout Ranch a few weeks earlier. Congratulations to Matt and his entire crew for a job well done! Burchfield Nature & Art Center has many other items on their "to-do" list and encourages scouts looking for volunteer hours to contact them at 667-4843 or via their Volunteer page. |
