Cub Scout Pack 185 Recognizes Hero Bus Driver with GoFundMe Account

Pack 185 in North Tonawanda decided to start a GoFundMe account for Darnell Barton, who has been thrust into the national spotlight for his actions in saving a young woman in distress.

The account already it has almost $800 in it.

"As far as doing a good thing, helping people out, try to preach that and they thought he was a hero, what he did was above and beyond what he had to," said Dan Klaes of Pack 185.

Barton says he will be speaking to the scouts at a future meeting.

5 Tips to "Camp Comfortable"
in Winter

1. Use Lithium Batteries - cold temperatures affect regular batteries, reducing the power that they can deliver.  Lithium batters, while more expensive, will keep your headlamp or GPS running in cold weather
2. Ventilate that Tent - it's tempting to close all the vents on your four-season tent for the night, but unless you allow for some ventilation, you'll await either a wet or snow covered tent ceiling resulting from the moisture in your breath.
3. Your Water Bottle Makes a Great Bedfellow - before going to bed, be sure to warm up the water in your water bottles, tighten and test the caps for leaks, then store them for the night inside your sleeping bag down by your feet.  Not only will they warm your feet, the water will stay in the liquid form.
4. Ground too frozen for stakes?  Make yourself some deadmans with 1" diameter sticks by slipping the sticks through the stake-down loop on your tent, then burry it in the snow.  Compact the snow around the stick for a firm hold.  In extreme cases, pile rocks on the sticks for a super hold.
5. Warm your Butane canister to keep the flame strong.  Butane or isobutane stoves a known to slow in cold weather as the fuel in the canister cools.  Start with warming the fuel canister in your coat or sleeping bag.  Once thing get going, put the canister in a small pot/bowl and  pour hot water around the canister to warm the Butane inside and keep the stove going strong.
