District News

District Executive & Director’s Minute:

Scouting has been a very exciting year so far.  We have had the opportunity to attend many wonderful Blue and Gold Dinners, Court of Honors, and other events.  We look forward to continuing to meet all of you.

Red Jacket is proud to announce that we are getting ready to kick off a strong spring recruitment campaign.  We are actively looking for units who are interested in doing spring recruiting.  The membership committee has been working very hard in trying to get feedback as well as resources that will help units recruit the best.  If you have any ideas that you can share, please do not hesitate to contact us.   We want to create an opportunity for every youth to join Scouting.   More information will be coming next month as well at Roundtables.

We look forward to continuing to work with you, and feel free to contact us at anytime.

Yours in Scouting,

Greg Voyzey                                                                              Melissa Schreiber

Membership Standards Study Update

Dear Unit, District & Council Scouters,

As many of you are aware, the volunteer officers of the Boy Scouts of America’s National Executive Board have decided to conduct more extensive research before making a final decision in the ongoing review of BSA membership policy.  After careful consideration and extensive dialogue within the Scouting family, and taking into consideration comments from constituencies outside the organization, the executive board directed its committees to further engage representatives of Scouting’s membership and listen to their perspectives and concerns.

Scouting is a family and we believe it is important that every voice is heard.  We are dedicated to the integrity of this careful, deliberate process, and trust that our 2,000 voting members of the National Council will fairly and accurately determine the most appropriate path forward, with minimal disruption to the delivery of the Scouting mission both before and after the vote. In order to support our National organization as it strives to do what is best for the youth of America and for our movement, we will be conducting information meetings:

  • March 20 – Erie Community College - North Campus, 6205 Main Street, Williamsville, NY 14221
  • March 21 - St Paul Lutheran Church - 453 Old Falls Blvd, North Tonawanda, NY 14120
  • March 25 - Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Dr., Hamburg, NY 14075

Each will begin at 7:00 pm and end no later than 9:00 pm.  Time will be allowed at the end of the meetings for you to complete and submit a questionnaire.  These opinions will be shared with our Area, our Region, and ultimately, the National organization.  Please encourage your leaders and Charter Organization to take part.
For those who would like to provide an opinion on possible changes to the BSA Membership Standards, but cannot attend one of these meetings, simply watch your e-mail between March 8 and 15 for a Voice of the Scout Survey, which will include questions relevant to this issue.  If you have not submitted updated e-mails with your recharter, you can still receive the survey by clicking here to register your e-mail.  If this link does not work, please paste the following URL into your browser:  You will need your membership ID number to participate; if you do not know this number, please contact the council office.
America needs Scouting, and our policies must be based on what is in the best interest of our kids.  We believe good people can disagree and still work together to accomplish great things for youth.  Going forward, we will work to stay focused on that which unites us.  Be a part of this discussion by staying engaged and continuing your role in Scouting. The kids in our communities need you.

Got Camp Cards?

It is still not too late to sign up for Camp Cards.  This is a great way to help raise money for camp.  There has been a good response from the units that have started selling Camp Cards, and we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to sell them.

Here is more information regarding Camp Cards:

If interested in selling Camp Cards, or need more, please contact either Greg Voyzey or Melissa Schreiber.
